FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

What does the $695 camp fee cover?:
The cost of camp is $695 which includes food, facility fees, field trip, insurance and everything else you can think of.  The only additional costs are family tickets to the Sussex Skyhawks game on the final night of camp.  In the past, families have attended the game utilizing discounted group tickets.

What happens on the last night of camp?:
The campers do their play-by-play into their tape recorder with Bruce and Ian there to assist.  The families enjoy spending time with Ian and Bruce and watching their son/daughter do play-by-play of a real game.

Why is the camp open to boys and girls 13 and up?:
We have found this to be the right age so the campers are mature enough to digest the information and benefit from the fast-paced environment, which includes a lot of interactivity and discussion.

Why a maximum of 60 campers?:
Bruce and Ian recognize that a major plus of the camp is the interaction they – and the guest speakers - have with the campers.  Along with Bruce and Ian, the camp staff includes Camp Director Dave Popkin - the voice of Seton Hall basketball, college football and basketball on ESPN 360, Northeast Conference basketball and minor league baseball on CN8-TV.  We also have several other counselors with broadcast experience to assist.

Where do the campers eat?:
We bring in pizza, subs, etc., and eat outside when possible.   We bring in sub sandwiches on the field trip.  The campers are well fed with snacks provided each day.  At the game, campers eat camp-provided concessions food during their pre-game preparation

Are any camp alumni currently pursuing broadcasting careers?:
We have several camp alumni already in college - Syracuse, Boston College, Creighton, Missouri, Seton Hall, Rutgers, etc. where they are doing very well in class and with their TV/radio stations.  They have all been thrilled to see that the camp gave them a big advantage over their classmates, largely because they already know a lot about the business and are not intimidated by the demands placed upon them.  They also cite spending time with Bruce and Ian, along with the camp speakers, as a big plus.  They are no longer "star struck" when meeting other well-known broadcasters.
