What the Media SaysMay 1, 2008 AMERICAN ICON AND BASEBALL LEGEND YOGI BERRA WILL AGAIN VISIT BRUCE BECK & IAN EAGLE SPORTS BROADCASTING CAMP Area Teens Have Opportunity to Interview Hall of Famer “Yogi’s appearance remains one of the highlights of the camp week,” said WNBC-TV’s Beck. “He spends a great deal of time with the campers and answers their questions openly and honestly. The campers are challenged to ask questions that would get a newsworthy response – maybe even a Yogism! He has been a great friend, supporter and host to the camp and it is without question an honor to have a living legend join us.” Along with Berra, past speakers at the camp have included well-known sportscasters such as: New York Rangers and Fox TV announcers Sam Rosen and Kenny Albert, New Jersey Nets radio announcers Chris Carrino and Tim Capstraw, WFAN's Chris Carlin, former MLB all-star Sparky Lyle, Devils radio announcer Matt Loughlin, WABC TV’s Scott Clark, and many others. The Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp will allow students, male and female, 13-and-older, to learn about on-air presentation, game preparation, writing and interviewing skills, stand-up techniques, the differences between radio and television calls, and much more. Lectures, research, and practice assignments lead up to the final assignment of calling a live minor-league baseball game. “It’s hard to believe that we have been doing this for seven years. It is gratifying to see that many of our former campers are now broadcasting for real in college and as professionals. We’re breeding our replacements. It’s getting a little scary, frankly,” Eagle said. Beck and Eagle will also conduct an Advanced Camp that same week for returning campers, which will again be headed by MSG TV broadcaster Mike Quick. “This is my favorite week of the year, I can’t wait to get going,” said Quick. Beck currently serves as the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Sports Anchor and weekday sports reporter at WNBC-TV. The eight-time New York Sports Emmy Award winner, was most recently named the 2006 Emmy recipient as Outstanding TV Sports Anchor. Beck has covered every major event including: three Olympic Games, The Super Bowl, The World Series, The NBA Finals, and The Kentucky Derby. He also hosts the Rutgers University football and basketball coaches shows and is a popular anchor on NBA TV. Eagle has worked for the last 13 seasons as a New Jersey Nets television voice. He covers many events for CBS Sports including: NFL Football, the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, the annual Army-Navy football game, U.S. Open Tennis, and Track and Field. Eagle also hosts sports talk shows on WFAN and Sirius Satellite Radio. The camp is limited to 60 campers who are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $695.
