Past Speakers: Yogi Berra

Yogi Berra is a American icon and one of the sporting world’s most beloved personalities. His athletic achievements, kindness and sense of humor are unmatched.  Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972, Yogi is a member of Major League Baseball’s All-Century Team.  The 15-time American League All-Star won the American League MVP award three times, more than any other player, and led the Yankees to 10 world championships, the most titles won by a single player in baseball history.

Yogi is not just a baseball immortal. He is also famous for this “Yogi-isms” which have allowed him to be quoted more than most poets. His one-of-a-kind observations have made him a major contributor to the national repository of wisdom. No other sports figure has as many entries in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, including, "It ain't over 'til it's over" and "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

Yogi calls his visit to camp on of the best things he gets to do all year. He has attended the camp each of the previous four years to visit with the campers. When once camper asked Yogi if he ever thought about a broadcasting career, Yogi explained, “I never thought broadcasting would become so big. If I knew that then, maybe I would have got into it.”
