The Nation's Premier Sports Broadcasting Camp!
The Sports Broadcasting Camp, which just celebrated our 25th anniversary, will return to Cleveland in 2027 as we again partner with Cleveland’s own John Fanta for a week at John Carroll University. John, who is a rising star with NBC Sports, attended St. Ignatius High School. The Sports Broadcasting Camp, founded in 2001, is the nation's longest running sportscasting camp.
We will utilize several locations on campus including the multi-camera production studios in the O’Malley Center and WJCU radio facilities. We will also have some biggest names in the industry joining us as speakers!
One of the highlights of the camp week is doing play-by-play and on-camera standups at a Cleveland Guardians game!
The Sports Broadcasting Camp has the perfect mix of learning and a variety of hands-on experiences with fun at the forefront of everything we do!
KEY DETAILS
Ages: Entering 6th grade - 19.
Anticipated Hours during the week of August 2, 2027:
Monday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. John Carroll University
Tuesday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. John Carroll University
Wednesday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. John Carroll University
Thursday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.at Cleveland Guardians/Progressive Field
Friday: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. John Carroll University
Cost: $765. We do offer a full refund up through July 2, 2027 as we recognize schedules may change. After that date, we will refund all but a $100 fee to cover incurred costs.

Meet The Team
John Fanta
The Cleveland native and St. Ignatius High School graduate is one of the emerging stars in sports broadcasting. He is in his second year with NBC Sports calling BIG EAST, Big Ten and Big 12 college basketball games across Peacock and NBC. He also works NBA, MLB, college football games including the Big Ten and Notre Dame.
John, a graduate of Seton Hall University, previously called men’s and women’s college basketball games for FOX Sports since 2018. He also covered the NBA Draft among other events for NBA Broadcasting since 2023 while also doing select games for CBS Sports Network.
He was honored as the Rising Star Award winner by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association in 2024 and was named on The Athletic’s “40 Under 40: Rising Stars in Men’s College Basketball” list.

Camp Director Dave Popkin
Longtime Camp Director Dave Popkin was named NSMA 2024 New Jersey Sportscaster of the Year. He has called 15 different sports in his career and has appeared on over a dozen national TV and radio networks, including CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports Network, ESPNU, MSG, and more.
Popkin is in his 24th year on the Seton Hall Basketball radio team, serving as both a color commentator and play-by-play announcer. He is in his third year co-hosting a college basketball talk show on FOX Sports Radio, Crashing the Boards.
Additionally, Pop is in his 26th year as the Voice of Northeast Conference basketball, currently airing on YES Network and ESPN+. He calls select Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Triple A) baseball games on 1520 AM, college soccer and baseball on FS1, and various sports on ESPN+.
The University of Miami (FL) graduate has also been an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University.
